About Corruption Art

“When the world is running down, you make the best of what’s still around” – The Police

A while back, I posted a status via twitter: “in recovery, data recovery that is”.  Well, here is part of the result.  I must say up front that I was able to retrieve around 90% of my images intact, using Stellar Phoenix Photo Recovery. Of the remaining 10%, about 8% percent were corrupt beyond repair, unable to be opened and no longer part of this dimension. Then there is the remaining 2%.

I have not been this excited visually in a while.  The images that were retrieved were scrambled images that my hard drive tried to rewrite after I created some inane blunder like disconnecting my firewire drive before ejecting or canceling a drive reformat mid process after realizing I still had files on the drive that I didn’t back up.  I have posted a cross section sample of those images here, for your enjoyment.

Why I find these images so fascinating, I am not sure.  I guess its the total randomness of the creation of visual order.  The creation of something positive in the wake of destruction. The images are the result of a mistake, something that has gone wrong, then yielding beauty and inspiration, and in some instances beyond that of the original image.
